Vendor Love: Frog Meadow Farm
That’s what Frog Meadow Farm said in response to a question about why they choose to sell their delicious, bio-dynamic produce at our humble little market.
Well, not so little any more.
The Montavilla Farmers Market is more popular than ever, with over 40 different vendors selling everything from spicy arugula, to sweet, summer cherries. Every Sunday, from June through October, you can find vendors with tables full of some of the best Cascadia grown produce and artisan foods available.
We’re a lucky bunch.
And yet, this is the same industry where one year of a soggy spring can decimate an entire field of crops. Where a bad batch of seeds can set you back weeks, costing time, money, and precious resources. Despite all this, our farmers remain committed to the cause of healthy, sustainable foods for all.
So what makes it all worth it? I thought you’d never ask…
At the beginning of last year’s season, Frog Meadow Farm said it’s all about quality food and sustainability.
“…knowing we are able to contribute and provide good quality food to others tables as well as our own. The steady move towards being self sufficient and sustainable is a huge motivating factor in the operation of our farm.”
And we’re grateful for it.
The month of June is already behind us and we have nothing but berries, basil, and tomatoes ahead. No complaints here. Once the bounty of summer berries subsides, we’ll be knee deep in zucchinis the size of wine bottles, and early winter squashes ready for the roasting. Pumpkins, kale, chard, and sweet, fall apples won’t be far behind.
As you head into 4th of July weekend, armed with baskets full of strawberries and scoops of salted caramel ice cream, remember; our year of fresh, local eating is just getting started, and the dedicated farmers and vendors of the Montavilla Farmers Market are ready for the ride.
