Our volunteers are the fuel that keeps our market running. If you have an interest in food, sustainability, community development, or farmers markets and would like to get involved, we’d love to have your help! We value our volunteers and have many ways that you can get involved and give back to the Market. Wherever your skills, talents and interests lie, the Montavilla Farmers Market would love to have you join our family.

What do current volunteers have to say?
“Farmers markets are one of the best ways to support local agriculture. It’s been a wonderful experience that has exceeded my expectations. I lived here, but I didn’t really know people before. At the market I love to meet people and see how we fit together as a community. Volunteering here is my best connection to the neighborhood.” — Dylan Gillis, 2014-2015 Volunteer.
“My favorite volunteer experience has been writing for the newsletter. This has given me the chance to develop relationships with some of the vendors, participate in several events at the market, and experience the sense of community that I think is the most important part of being in the Montavilla neighborhood. I started volunteering at the market as a way to show my appreciation for the Everybody Eats program. I will keep volunteering because I always have a good time no matter what I’m doing, and everyone involved makes me feel welcome and appreciated. How can you pass up an opportunity like that?” — Mary Diehl, volunteering since 2015.
“I volunteer at the market because I want to connect with my community and in order to give something in return since the market has benefited me and many others. My favorite part of volunteering is talking to the vendors about their product [for the e-newsletter] and hearing the enthusiasm with which they describe fresh produce and handmade foods.” — Leslie Sullivan, 2015-2016 Volunteer.
“The farmers market helps the neighborhood. It’s one of the best thing that happens here — people can get their fresh food! I’m from Europe and grew up with this type of market available on the streets, so I’m really grateful this market exists. It reminds me of the good old days. I volunteer because I want to support the market and make sure it has the help it needs each week to continue.” — Dagmar Miller, volunteering since 2007.
“I usually help with set up on Sunday mornings, putting up canopies, setting up tables and chairs, assisting vendors, it’s fun and rewarding to be helpful, and I love being part of a team. I volunteer at the market because I want to support it and be part of a grassroots effort to make my community better. The MFM is an important piece of what makes the neighborhood special.” — Neil Mattson, volunteering since 2014.
“I like doing a little bit of manual labor as often as I can because it is such a departure from my regular Monday through Friday routine. I am new to the neighborhood and love being part of such a positive presence in our community. Local foods for everyone is a cause near and dear to my heart.” — Mary Kate McVey, 2015 Volunteer.
