Everybody Eats

Montavilla Farmers Market believes that everyone, regardless of income, should have the opportunity to eat healthy, high-quality food that nourishes both the body and our community. One in six Oregonians receives food assistance through SNAP. From 2009 through July 2018, the Market maintained a program called “Everybody Eats” that helped individuals and families experiencing food insecurity be able to include in their budgets some farm-direct produce and food products from local businesses.

For every EBT dollar a person spent up to $10, the Everybody Eats program gave them an additional dollar. This increased these shoppers’ purchasing power by up to $10 each time they came to the market.

The Everybody Eats program provided $60,000 in matching funds to our EBT shoppers since 2009, but the federal grant that funded this program throughout the state in 2016 and 2017 is no longer available. In 2018 the Market went back to its grassroots community funding and was able to offer a match through July. The goal is to bring it back in 2019 with funding for the full market season. We need your help to keep this program alive, and help us ensure that everybody eats at our farmers market next year!

Anyone can donate to Everybody Eats at the Market’s information booth using their debit/debit card, cash, or check. You may also mail a check made out to the “Montavilla Farmers Market” with “Everybody Eats” in the memo line, or donate online through PayPal.
