About the Montavilla Farmers' Market
Market Values The neighborhood of Montavilla began as a rural farming community 117 years ago, just east of what were then the city limits of Portland. In the mid-1880s, residents of Montavilla began to develop a new business district along Stark Street. By 1890, a bustling new Montavilla boasted "three grocery stores, a couple of meat markets, a livery stable, a privately owned bank and two blacksmith shops". In recent years, Montavilla has had a resurgence of small locally owned businesses that have sprouted up along Stark Street between 75th and 92nd Sts. A new coffeehouse, movie theater, restaurants and local shops that have given new life to our community, fostering a community spirit aimed at continuing the revival of this historic area. A large group of local residents and business owners have joined together to start the Montavilla Farmers Market. By creating a farmers' market, we hope to build a still greater sense of community. Along with offering a fine selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally made cheeses and other foods and handcrafted goods, the market also features demonstrations and entertainment. Volunteers , vendors, and artisans are encouraged to contact us to become part of the market. Contacts
